Argon is the most common noble gas found on earth. In the field of steel production, argon plays a particularly important role in the field of secondary metallurgy. With the argon purging, the steel alloy can be degassed and homogenized at the same time, in particular the undesired, dissolved nitrogen is removed from the melt. Argon 4.6 is the most commonly used in TIG welding.

Argon is used in many areas as the cheapest noble gas that is available in large quantities. Most of the argon is used as a protective gas. It is used whenever the cheaper nitrogen cannot be used. This primarily includes welding processes for metals that react with nitrogen at high temperatures, such as titanium, tantalum and tungsten. Argon is also used as the inert gas in metal inert gas welding and tungsten inert gas welding, which are used, for example, when welding aluminum alloys or high-alloy steels. It is also used in metallurgy as a protective gas, for example for the production of titanium, high-purity silicon or melt refining as well as for degassing molten metal. Argon is colorless and odorless, non-flammable and non-toxic. Rooms enriched with argon must be ventilated before entering, as argon displaces the oxygen! Argon has a suffocating effect even with a small amount of enrichment in the air we breathe.

Hydrogen is colorless, odorless, flammable and non-toxic. Storage facilities for hydrogen are considered to be potentially explosive. Hydrogen forms explosive mixtures with oxygen or chlorine (oxyhydrogen!). At high outflow velocities there is a risk of self-ignition.

Helium is one of the rarest noble gases and therefore one of the most expensive noble gases. Helium is colorless and odorless. Helium is non-flammable and non-toxic. Rooms enriched with helium must be ventilated before entering! Helium has a suffocating effect even when it is only slightly enriched in the air. Balloon gas is not as pure as helium, but otherwise has the same description.

Medical oxygen is a medicinal product in accordance with the Medicines Act. Medical oxygen consists of oxygen with a content of ≥ 99.5% by volume in the gas phase or in the vaporized liquid phase. Medical oxygen meets the quality requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia. Medical oxygen is colorless and odorless. Medical oxygen is non-toxic, non-flammable, but oxidizing.
